7 Ways to Fix WHEA Uncorrectable Error in Windows | Blue Screen of Death
Windows Hardware Error Architecture (WHEA) is a system software which allows 
communication to be made in between hardware and the operating system. 

WHEA uncorrectable error is a type of blue screen error which occurs most commonly as a result of hardware failure. Usually when this error occurs the computer will be prevented from booting displaying the same message over again. 

There are several root causes for WHEA uncorrectable error. Some of them are faulty hard drive, driver corruptions and missing updates. This is one type of error which is difficult to troubleshoot. However it is not irreversible. There are several measures to prevent it from happening again.

1. Run CHKDSK


Windows comes with built in troubleshooting tool known as Check Disk Utility (CHKDSK). This tool essentially scans system files for errors and repairs files if possible. The same tool can also be used to identify bad sectors on a hard drive. 

To run CHKDSK,

  1. Click on search box and type '' cmd '' .
  2. Right click on cmd.exe and choose run as administrator.
  3. Now in the command prompt box type CHKDSK x : / f / r and Press Enter (x stands for the respective drive)

2. Check Hardware


Most often WHEA uncorrectable error is related to the computer hardware. Therefore, before trying out the software fixes you need to physically inspect each hardware. Especially, the hard drive and the RAM. You must make sure that RAM is not faulty and properly seated on its slot. And also check your hard drive for bad sectors. For troubleshooting hard drives, there are numerous tools such as error checking utility. 


3. Update Windows


Recent version of Windows makes sure that all necessary patches are available to fix most errors. This patch might also fix WHEA uncorrectable error. For some reason the patches may gone missing contributing to this error. Therefore, updating windows to the latest version will roll out the issue automatically. 


4. Update Driver


A corrupted drive can also be the cause behind WHEA uncorrectable error. If the drivers are outdated or misconfigured your computer can no longer work properly. A faulty driver is easily indicated in the device manager with a yellow error symbol. Hence, you can easily figure out which driver is causing this problem so that you can check for an update. 


5. Disable Overclocking


Overclocking the CPU results in processor overheating which can also be the cause for WHEA uncorrectable error. Besides this error, overclocking can lead to various other stop codes. Hence, a simple measure to fix WHEA uncorrectable error is to disable overclocking in BIOS.


6. Restore System


A recently made changes in the system may also contribute to this error. Therefore, by performing a system restore your system is reverted back to its previous state. So whatever the changes made in the past is restored. 

To Restore System,
  1. Insert the installation media
  2. Restart the PC
  3. Boot from the installation media
  4. Choose your language
  5. Select '' Troubleshoot ''
  6. Select '' System Restore ''


7. Reinstall Windows


If nothing else seems to work, you need to finally consider reinstalling windows. By clean installing the operating system, a fresh version of windows is installed. Thus, all issues including the WHEA uncorrectable error is eventually resolved. However, this method cannot guaranteed to work if the hardware components are already damaged.
